Celebration of Life Weekend

  • Re:Public 2301 East 10th Street Indianapolis, IN, 46201 United States (map)

The weekend of May 12, 2023 starting at 6pm EST,  Minority Recovery Collective, Inc. (MRCI)  will host their 2nd Annual Celebration of Life weekend, a series of private events in celebration & memory of the life of founding mother Regina “Gigi” Cheatham. This series of events was created with the intention to provide a loving space for those who have lost their mother or child(ren). The weekend will include an Art Gallery, Brunch and Collective Rest.

The 2023 Celebration of Life Weekend will raise funds for MRCI’s 1st Community Safehouse, located on Indy’s eastside. With a goal of raising $50,000 by end of May, funds raised* will enable The Collective to cultivate a space for culturally curated wellness initiatives. Through the Community Safehouse, MRCI will offer training, an emergency bed, supported employment with livable wages, and sponsored mental health programs/services for Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color.

Funds raised will go towards construction costs of the Community Safehouse and:

  • Saving towards the purchase of a Sprinter Van (Mobile Wellness Unit)

  • Starting the Legacy Learning Garden at the Community Safehouse

The creation of MRCI was inspired by the recovery journeys of Co-Founder, Natasha Cheatham, and her mother, Regina, who transitioned from this life September 10, 2020. Founded in November 2018, MRCI has partnered with numerous organizations such as BU Wellness Network, The Indiana Recovery Network, and VOICES Corp to advocate for the improved quality of life for those who identify as youth, young adults, LGBTQ+, and persons in recovery.

Event registration includes general admission starting at $33 and donation based tickets.
